The Biggest Dinosaur
Moscow, 5 September. Scientists opened and described a huge land dinosaur, weighing like seven tyrannosaurs of rex. The lizard was named after the giant warships of the beginning of the twentieth century - Dreadnoughtus schrani and taken to titanosaurus, writing.
The gigantic dinosaur skeleton was found in Argentina, in the Chubut area located in South Patagonia. The length of the drift-net was 26 metres long and the weight was 65 tons.
"Dreadnoughtus schrani was a real giant. He weighed like a dozen African elephants or seven tyrannosaurs of rex. Moreover, the skeleton state suggests that, at the time of death, he had not yet increased to the maximum size " , he notes the lead author of the discovery, Professor Kenneth Lakovar.
The lizard remains scattered over four field seasons, from 2005 to 2009. The diameter of one cervical vertebrae was more than a metre, except for most tail vertebraes, ribs and most bones of limbs. The paleontologists reconstructed the entire skeleton in a computer three-dimensional model.
"The cave of this size, and the spikes on the tail, was not afraid of anyone. That reminds me of the giant lens of the early 20th century, covered with armor and virtually invincible. Drednoutus means "nothing afraid of anything," said Lakovar.
To the Drednothus. the largest The titanosaurus was considered to be another Patagon lizard, an elaltitan, which weighed 45 tons. There are a number of dinosaurs, which may have weighed more than the drift-net, but for the exact withdrawal there are few bones - the " gold standard " for the calculation of the mass of four-legged animals is the measurement of the femur and shoulder bones.
Dreadnoughtus schrani lived on Earth some 77 million years ago in the zone of moderate forests in South America. Almost all day, he's been in one place, eating his vegetation around his neck. Scientists found that weed was killed instantly, polluting in the blade of the river.
